• passport of Russian Federation (new type) or foreign passport
• for children till 14 years - new type birth certificate or old type birth certificate with Russian citizenship paper additionally

"Passengers are supposed to follow passport-administrative (including visa rules), customs and other rules both concerning themselves, and concerning examination of their hand luggage and baggage. The railway is not responsible for consequences of failure to carry out these rules by passengers" Item 45 section IX "Agreements about international communication" and OP SMC rules.

Trains following through Russia by transit through Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, Byelorussia:

If you are going to Azerbaijan republic, the travel documents are made out only at presentation of passports (registration with the help of temporary papers, identification cards, military cards and etc. is prohibited) - the telegram of Moscow railway administration ¹419 from 02.02.2000.

For citizens of CIS countries visa-free state of trips to/from Turkmenistan is saved for:
• citizens with valid diplomatic or service passports for the period till 30 days from the moment of crossing the border;
• train, refrigerator and locomotive group of workers of railway at presence of the route and/or official representatives of intergovernmental communication by courier;
• citizens of Russian Federation and Turkmenistan having double citizenship, under valid national passports of home country and at presence of the document confirming citizenship of other country.
• passengers following transit through Turkmenistan territory (without change/transfer) - the presence of Turkmenistan visa is not required.

Citizens of states different from CIS countries and persons without citizenship at movement to Armenia, Belorussia, Kazakhstan, Tadjikistan, Uzbekistan or to the departure point in the third country at following through the state border of Russian Federation should have the Russian transit visas regardless of the presence of visas for the above-stated countries.

This requirement is valuable for citizens of all states, with which the visa order of crossing Russian Federation state border works.

Transportation dogs, small domestic animal, birds in baggage car is supposed without overload in transits.

Transportation of dogs in passenger trains is made:
• in containers or boxes with pallets in baggage cars;
• in non-working tambour of the first (behind locomotive) ordinary passenger car (second-class carriage), but no more than 2 dogs of large breeds in muzzle and on lead, under supervision of owners, which should pass in the same car;
• In the CIS countries transportation of dogs is supposed in separate compartment of ordinary passenger car (second-class carriage), but no more than two animals in one compartment. Also a passenger has to pay cost of travel documents for number of seats in compartment.

Transportation of small domestic animals and birds is supposed in all cars (except fist class), if it is not forbidden by veterinary rules.

Transportation in baggage cars small domestic animals, dogs, birds is made after presentation of appropriate veterinary certificates.

Group transportation of dogs are supposed only under the forward orderings addressed to the chief of station, but not later than 5 days prior to departure.

For transportation of dogs (any breed) in local and distant trains the payment as for 20 kg luggage is raised.

Each passenger has the right of transportation of hand baggage, but no more than 36 kg (for full or child travel document).

Passengers have the right to take 50 kg of luggage on each addition completely paid place using redemption-fee of additional places. The redemption-fee of additional places (but no more than one compartment of the passenger) works only for originally and fast trains and does not work for trains with additional comfortable options.
